About Gravel Capital Brewing Brewery

The Idea

The idea of the brewery started long ago with a couple batches of homebrew made by Tom and Evan, with the idea that our beer fucking rocked.

When the opportunity presented itself to buy the old brewing equipment from the banks — previously owned by Falling Down Brewing Company — and sign the lease, we did just that.

And just like that, it was real.

The Building — Before

The building itself felt industrial and narrow.

It needed work. A lot of work.

The Name

We didn’t want some generic name like Sparrow Brewing Company.
And while Oxford Brewing Company would have been fine,
it didn’t feel like us.

We wanted the name to reflect the town and its history.

Oxford was once known as the gravel capital of the world,
and that stuck with us.

That’s where Gravel Capital Brewing came from.

The name also explains the rock-themed vibe throughout the brewery.
Why everything rocks.
Why so many of our beer names do too.
Even our slogan.

It all ties back to the history of Oxford
and building something solid from the ground up.

The Renovation

All the flooring had to be taken up, including a small layer of floor leveler — by hand, with hammers.

The wall down the middle was removed.
All walls were painted.
Light fixtures were removed and replaced.
The ceiling was painted.
New signs were added to both the front and back of the building.

Slowly, the space started to feel like a brewery instead of a construction site.

First Brew Day

The first day of brewing — helped and guided by Brad Ethridge — was long and messy.
There was water everywhere.
All the equipment needed to be scrubbed down.

And that day, our very first batch was brewed: Never Ending IPA.

That was the beginning.

Opening the Doors

We did a soft launch without announcing our opening — and the turnout was amazing.

People from all around came out to try our brews. Seeing the taproom filled with people so early on confirmed what we hoped: this place mattered.
